Doris White Evans was considered by many, a controversial person but after years of close association with her I can state with honest conviction she did do tremendous healing work and gave her life to the cause of Christian Science, she and her husband, Stephen T. Evans. Mrs. Evans led us through the law case and stood against the storm of ecclesiastical despotism. This took tremendous strength, dedication and toughness. She was a real fighter and had a love for Mrs. Eddy and for Christian Science that I had never witnessed before. I worked in her home and learned invaluable lessons. All our members did nightly watches as in the days of Mrs. Eddy. Everything we did had to be "demonstrated" - I considered it "boot camp" for Christian Scientists and at times it was extremely difficult but forced a growth that could not have been achieved in any other way. I am not saying she was "perfect" by any means nor was she "another Mrs. Eddy", but I am saying - God did use her to establish this Independent church, and I will be forever grateful for that fact she took an unwavering stand that no one else has been able to achieve thus far. We would not have this church, our web-site, the dedicated members who have remained if it were not for Doris White Evans and it would be unconscionable for us not to give her this due respect and recognition.
